Tops Stay On at Top Resorts
There’s news that the women on the beaches of France’s fashionable Cote d’Azur are turning away from the trend of going topless.
The cover-up has caused a minor debate there – some say it’s a sign of a new conservatism sweeping through France, others say it’s to do with increased awareness of skin cancer and sensitivities towards the growing Muslim community.
A spokesman for the French healthy ministry said increasing publicity about skin cancer had been a factor. “Whereas people once thought nothing of exposing their flesh to the sun for many hours, people are generally a lot more sensible nowadays.”
One woman on holiday in St Tropez said going topless was seen as a bit vulgar now. “In the 70s and 80s, less was considered more when it came to clothes, but now that has changed. It’s gone out of fashion.”
Luxique can offer a range of more than 30 luxury Cote d’Azur hotels, including several in St Tropez.
