Theatre, Cinema and Opera
The Accademia di Santa Cecilia stages concerts by its own and visiting orchestras at Via della Conciliazione. The Accademia Filarmonica holds a major recital series at the Teatro Olimpico, Piazza Gentile da Fabriano. A wealth of classical music can also be heard free of charge in churches throughout the year. Film thrives in Rome but it might take some searching to find a cinema offering English subtitles. For theatre, the Miracle Players perform in English on Fridays through the summer at The Forum. The main listings magazine is roma c’e (www.romace.it) an invaluable weekly publication with details of classical and other musical events, theatre, dance, opera, night-clubs, museum and gallery opening times and much more.
Museums and Galleries
Rome has a host of museums covering various periods of the city’s history. Only the Vatican offers a grander collection of paintings and sculptures than the Galleria Borghese www.galleriaborghese.it. Rome’s foremost picture gallery is Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica, with works by Raphael, Tintoretto, Holbein and El Greco. For Children
The Italians love children and welcome young families in hotels and most restaurants and there are a number of attractions that will keep the young ones amused. The Time Elevator is one of Rome’s newest and most fascinating indoor activities.
