Theatre, Cinema and Opera
Boston theatre ranges from Broadway shows to amateur and professional college productions by way of repertory and experimental theatre. It has long played the role of a try-out town for pre-Broadway productions. These often appear at the Shubert Theatre on Tremont Street www.wangcenter.org/the-shubert.html. The Wilbur Theatre, also on Tremont Street, is an intimate and elegantly restored building that has held several world premieres, including A Streetcar Named Desire and Our Town. The Charles Playhouse on Warrenton Street is the home of the long-running and renowned Blue Man Group art troupe. www.blueman.com/ticketinfo/boston/index.shtml.
The city and suburbs have a fair number of cinemas, many with multiple screens. The Boston Public Library and the Museum of Fine Arts regularly show classics.
Boston’s premier dance company is the Boston Ballet. The troupe of more than 50 dancers presents both classical and modern works. The highlight of the year is the Christmas holiday presentation of The Nutcracker. www.bostonballet.org
As befits the ‘Athens of America,’ Boston is, considering its size, the most musical city in the United States. There are many fine orchestras, including the Boston Philharmonic (www.bostonphil.org), the Boston Symphony (www.bso.org) and the Boston Pops (www.bostonpops.org)
Museums and Galleries
Boston's museums are as good as any you'll find in the world, and the most visited one is the Museum of Science at Science Park. It has more than 400 interactive exhibits including a Virtual Fish Tank, an IMAX theatre and a planetarium. www.mos.org. The Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) is New England's largest art museum. It’s known for its collection of works by the French Impressionist, Claude Monet - the largest outside France. It is also home to spectacular changing exhibitions. www.mfa.org. The Boston Tea Party Ship consists of a small museum and the Beaver II, a Danish brig built in 1908 which is similar to the Beaver – the ship involved in the famous ‘tea party.’ www.bostonteapartyship.com. These are just three of the many possibilities in Boston. A useful website is www.museumsofboston.org

There’s ice-skating in the winter and any number of parks to enjoy all year round.
