Detailed Review

One of a select brand of Hyatt hotels known throughout the world for its exceptional design and elegant style, catering to guests seeking privacy and personal service, Park Hyatt Sydney is located on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour and the famous Rocks district, and the hotel is five minutes from Sydney's central business and shopping district areas and a 25-minute drive from Sydney Airport.

All the hotel's 158 guestrooms are large and luxurious, most with private balconies overlooking Sydney's spectacular harbour, the Opera House and/or Harbour Bridge. Park Hyatt Sydney is the only hotel in Australia that provides full time personal butler service to its guests.

Park Hyatt Sydney has an elegant spa, rooftop pool and terrace, two private dining rooms and a conference room that can expand to seat 100 for dinner. The hotel's business centre also includes a separate boardroom seating 12. Clients of Park Hyatt Sydney appreciate the attention to detail and specialised service of the hotel's banqueting and catering staff. Whether it be a wedding, conference, board meeting or product launch, our objective, at Park Hyatt Sydney, is to ensure that your event is an outstanding success and one that will be remembered by your guests.

The harbourkitchen&bar, the hotel's chic restaurant, designed by Architect Tony Chi, takes in the fabulous view of Sydney Harbour. Floor-to-ceiling, folding glass doors create a light and airy environment where you can actually hear the water lapping and see the food being prepared by the hotel's award-winning chef Anthony Musarra. The delectable menu incorporates modern Australian cuisine with Mediterranean inspired flavours, utilising the wood-fired oven, rotisserie and char-grill in an alfresco setting.

Park Hyatt Sydney has two bars, harbour bar, known as much for its fabulous views as it is for its martinis, champagnes and boutique beers on tap. The hotel's more traditional Club Bar has a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere with an open fire, cognacs, whiskies and a humidor with a large range of Cuban cigars.

    Park Hyatt
    By Greg Clarke

If you have ever thought about sleeping with Australias iconic opera house the Park Hyatt might be as close as you can get to fulfilling the fantasy. In the historic Rocks (one of the oldest parts of Sydney), many of the rooms are built over the water and reach out to this most distinctive landmark. The hotel opened in 1990 and a major refurbishment was completed in 2004 and while an uninspiring faade wont draw you inside, the water-hugging locale might.

Travertine marble spreads through the foyer while patterned carpet in the corridors is influenced by the nearby rippling water. The tone is understated, modern and elegant (though the bar has the feel of a gentlemens club). Original oil paintings about the foyer are available for purchase. Look out for the pearl-lined wall that, at a certain time of day, captures the reflection of the Opera House. There is a small roof-top pool, jacuzzi and day spa. Accessible by water taxi, the restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows with, you guessed it, harbour views. There is wheel chair access and a "kidsierge" program designed to give mum and dad help with little ones. In 2005, the Tatler Travel Guide included this in its 'Top 101 Hotels in the World'.

    The rooms
The 158 guest rooms, designed in part by New Yorker Tony Chi, have private balconies. Some have views of both the opera house and the bridge. There are Eames chairs, ottomans and remote control curtains though considering the views, perhaps they will be rarely drawn. In the uncluttered rooms the beds have been repositioned to take in the views and should you tire of gazing out the window, all rooms have wide screen TVs. There are walk in wardrobes and each room has its own small bar.
