Detailed Review

Located in the centre of Brussels, next to the historic and picturesque Grand Place, the Hotel Amigo is conveniently close to the main commercial district and attractions of the European capital.

Having undergone a complete refurbishment, the Hotel Amigo has been restored to its rightful position as the best hotel in Brussels and now provides a stylish and central base from which to explore the atmospheric cobbled streets, restaurants and bars, chocolate and lace shops and specialist antiques markets.

A wonderful hotel for families, Amigo enjoys full facilities that will make your stay in Brussels comfortable. The new interiors of the Hotel Amigo are fresh and contemporary with some Flemish-style touches. Many existing works of art, tapestries, paintings and early sculptures help retain the character and ambience of the area. Heavy Brussels linens are used extensively, together with red silk curtains with embroidered velvet detail, leather brass-nailed headboards, and ornate Flemish chairs and desks with clean, modern lines.

Press Quotes

"You can't help being struck by the quality of the materials: heavy linens and pale leather, brass-nailed headboards. Soft natural hues combine with red silk curtains and embroidered velvet details." Telegraph 08

"Hotel Amigo is a mere waffle's toss from the Grand Place and set within one of the area's typical 18th-century buildings. It's one of Rocco Forte's recent high-end developments, and the style is pleasingly unstuffy, while still luxurious." Guardian 07

"Nearby, the area's venerable Hotel Amigo has newly renovated rooms featuring works by Belgian artists."

"Among the nicest places to stay is the quiet, elegant Hotel Amigo. In a former jail off the Grand Place, it has sleek furniture, Art Deco lighting, and prints of classic Belgian art." Conde Nast 06

Independent Reviews

    Hotel Amigo
    By Jamie Dunford Wood

Well positioned just a few steps from the Grand Place, in a pedestrianised part of old Brussels, the Amigo Hotel is, primarily, a business hotel. Like most of Brussels hotel trade, the Amigo relies on corporate business in the week and heavily discounts rates to attract tourists at weekends. Following the Rocco Forte look, the style of the rooms is modern, elegant and chunky, full of solid detail, subdued colours and spacious marble and limestone bathrooms. And like the others, there’s a running motif in the pictures – here it is Tintin, a famous Belgium resident in a country in dire need of them. However, the rooms come in various shapes and sizes, and the categories can be inconsistent. If you can, choose a room on the first two floors – the fifth and sixth are in the eaves (though you may like this cosiness), with small windows, while other floors have smaller windows and lower ceilings.

The most spacious are executive rooms and junior suites, though confusingly some executives are actually larger than junior suites. Next comes deluxe, with standard smallest – but not overly small – of all. Prices for the standard start at 400 euros, often discounted to as little as 190 at weekends. But the Rocco Forte style, though elegant, is somewhat minimalist in tone, a perfect backdrop or stage set for the beautiful people it attract in places like Florence or Rome, as other facilities are slim – for example there is no spa or pool here. But models and the glitterati are more discreet in Brussels, there’s not the same excitable buzz about the place, so there's a briskness and efficiency here that appeals to a business clientele. Their absence at the weekends allows for great rates and a high level of service.
