"Everything you would expect from an FS, the best in Prague for comfort - if slightly predictable in this historic city"
Four Seasons, Prague
By Jamie Dunford Wood
Opened in early 2001 after 9 years construction and renovation, the Four Seasons Prague is a mix of old and new. A new cubed block has been squeezed between a former Renaissance-style 19thC former fishmongers palace (hence the symbols) and a smaller building on the river front overlooking the castle and Charles Bridge. Nowhere near as impressive as the art nouveau palace being created by the Four Seasons in the Gresham Palace on the Danube in Budapest, it is nevertheless a cool, minimalist haven in true FS style. Cool white marble and pale wood in the reception areas gives way to darker, toned down Biedermeier-esque furnishings in the rooms. Rooms in the old building have higher ceilings, but only half dozen or so (out of 162) have real river views - these are deluxe rooms, but what views, despite le tout Prague, including, when we were there, assorted drunks parading below your bedroom window along the embankment. Just minutes by foot from the old town square, the hotel in perfectly positioned on the edge of Josehov. No pool, but a health spa, massage center etc. The Italian restaurant serves expensive but imaginative regional Italian fare. The reception area is fairly sparse, with just a small bar and secluded terrace.
