Situated in one of the oldest areas of Prague, the Hotel Maximilian is just a minute’s walk from historic Old Town Square. The Týn Cathedral, St Nicholas Cathedral and Astronomical Clock are conveniently close to the hotel, while further afield are the State Opera House, National Museum and National Theatre. The Rudolfinum, home to the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, is just a short walk away from the hotel. Across the famous Charles Bridge is the 9th century Prague Castle and Petrin Park. This luxury hotel is surrounded by narrow cobbled streets and alleyways which hide intimate restaurants, workshops, cozy bars and boutiques.

- Highlights and Features

The Hotel Maximilian is a pleasing contemporary designer hotel with the odd touch of Art Deco thrown in. It was reopened in 2005 after extensive renovations and modernization by designer, Eva Jiřičná. Using her signature white walls in the lobby and innovative glass walls in the hotel library, the whole effect is calming, light and a constant source of interest.

This luxury hotel offers some nice original services to add to guests’ comfort, such as a lobby kitchen area with a constant supply of cakes, teas and coffees. The business centre is very well-equipped, including computers and a printer all at no charge. While appealing to those who prefer modern hotels, the Maximilian Hotel also caters to business guests and those who want a luxury hotel in Prague’s central old Town Square.

The 71 guest rooms are spacious with modern designer furniture and the latest flat-screen TVs and technology. Many of the rooms in this luxury hotel look out on the nearby old monastery, and some enjoy wrought-iron balconies overlooking the cobbled street or the quiet rear courtyard. Guest rooms have 21st century furnishings including Philippe Starck bathtubs, and bathrooms featuring opaque glass walls. All the rooms are generously sized and although individually furnished, most include a modern sofa and a hip modern desk space. There is plenty of hanging and storage space for those who are staying a while. WiFi, security and private parking are all part of the service. Whether on vacation or business the Hotel Maximilian is a well thought-out luxury hotel in Prague’s most historic district. Further relaxation is offered in the excellent Zen City Spa.

The modern aluminium and glass breakfast room serves an attractive buffet breakfast but has no restaurant, although the concierge will happily recommend some of the plentiful places to eat nearby. As a member of the Small Leading Hotels of the World, the Hotel Maximilian was also listed on the 2006 Travel and Leisure List as a ‘Top Pick 30 European Hotel’ and comes highly recommended.
