The Avenue Hotel is located in the suburb of Frederiksberg, approximately 2km from Copenhagen’s city centre and close to the Copenhagen Lakes. The Tivoli Gardens, the historic inner city with its pedestrian areas, National Museum, Rosenborg Castle Museum, Nyhavn, Amalienborg Slot and the Little Mermaid are all within 20 minutes walking distance or are easily reached using public transport. The Hotel is just around the corner from the Forum, Copenhagen’s exhibition and concert venue. There are many good restaurants and cafés in the area.
The Avenue Hotel occupies a lovely historic building designed by Emil Blichfeldt in 1898. He was also responsible for the entrance to the Tivoli Gardens and many other architectural delights around Copenhagen. The building, known as Svanegaarden, was far ahead of its time with central heating, electricity, private bathrooms and even an elevator! Completely renovated in 2004 with great creativity, this luxury hotel won a distinguished Business Award for its achievements.
The friendly hotel offers a homely welcome to international travellers with its cozy lounge and sofas gathered around the modern fireplace. The elegant curved pewter bar desk sets the tone for this contemporary hotel, which is decorated with pleasing modern artwork, bookshelves, and quiet nooks for relaxing.
Smaller than many city hotels with just 68 rooms, the Avenue Hotel goes out of its way to welcome families, as well as being well located for business guests visiting the Forum. With spacious family rooms, toys and a sandpit, children are kept happily occupied. In the summer, the outdoor wooden patio is secluded behind screens of bamboo and is an ideal place to take breakfast or an early evening aperitif.
Rooms are typically European, quite small but comfortable. A refrigerator and safe are included but no tea of coffee making facilities. The best rooms are away from the busy street which can be noisy at night with heavy traffic.
The buffet breakfast includes home baked bread and a delicious buffet to start the day. The lounge serves light snacks and fine wines throughout the day and the Yellow Lounge is where quizzes, brunch, DJs and other entertainment takes place to a background of mainly classical music.
