Detailed Review
71 Nyhavn Hotel was established in an old warehouse, that is now preserved, in 1971. The warehouse was originally used for storage of spices and other articles of commerce from the Far East. As lorries and planes began to take over a great deal of the overseas trade, the importance of the warehouse was somewhat diminished. Consequently it was turned into a storage room for furniture. Everywhere at the hotel you can still see the original rafters made of Pomeranian pine, making you sense an atmosphere of bygone days.
The hotel has gone through great redecorations and renovations in 1997, and today it appears as a first class hotel with a charming and rustic atmosphere. With the fantastic location on the corner of the Harbour and the Nyhavn Canal, the 150 rooms offer a splendid framework and setting for your visit in Copenhagen.

Hotel 71 Nyhavn
By Gemma Pitcher
Nyhavn is the newly trendy bar and restaurant quarter of Copenhagen, a row of old warehouses fronting a canal filled with wooden sailing boats. In summer the waterfront terraces are packed with beautiful Danes admiring each other (this is a city where bars advertise themselves as being self-consciously coo) and drinking Tuborg beer at £4 a pint (terrifyingly, Copenhagen is apparently actually the most affordable city in Scandanavia). The locals mingle with the hordes of tourists who come for brunch (a Danish favourite) and dinner and squint dubiously at the menus offering translations like Boiled octopussy with sour sauce. 71 Nyhavn lies right at the end of the canal, an old warehouse meticulously restored and beautifully decorated with rich tapestry fabrics, dark woods, stone floors and old barrels on the walls. The low-ceilinged rooms are on the small side, but very cosy, and many (but not all) have views out over the canal. The restaurant and bar are closed on Sundays, but theres enough choice on the canal outside, from Michelin starred establishments to fast food cafes.
