Detailed Review
Le Clos Medicis is an intimate hotel, excellently placed, within easy walking distance of the boutiques and restaurants that abound in the area where Saint Germain and the Latin Quarter meet, just off the Boulevard St Michel and next to the Luxembourg Gardens. On the weekend noise from the bars can travel; although there is double glazing, very light sleepers should request a room on a higher floor or at the back of the hotel.
The welcoming lobby has a roaring open fire in winter, inviting sofas and chairs, a small bar, newspapers and a bowl of apples. The garden provides a quiet place to relax during the summer months. Breakfast is served there, weather permitting, or in the small breakfast room, where a wide continental selection is offered, cleverly arranged on corner shelves to maximize space.

Le Clos Medicis
By Jamie Dunford WoodCharming and quiet three star hotel at the top of St Germain - small rooms, as elsewhere in this area, but a real fire in winter, nice fabrics and dark wood make for a good cosy winter feel. Downstairs the breakfast area is tiny, but pleasant in summer if the courtyard garden is used.
The rooms are simply designed in beige and brown and neutral colours, with small wall-mounted TVs and mostly low ceilings. Each of the 38 floors is named. 5th floor rooms are the best - lightest, with beamed ceilings. Bathrooms are tiny, so skip the baths and ask for a shower room: showers are are powerful and a decent size.© Travel Intelligence. All rights reserved

“This contemporary chic hotel is warmly unpretentious, where guests relax in the courtyard garden during warmer weather.â€
Well placed in a central and popular location, near to the boutiques, bars and restaurants of Saint Germain and the Latin Quarter, and the Luxembourg Gardens. Rooms are small but elegant.

Le Clos Medicis is an intimate hotel, excellently placed, within easy walking distance of the boutiques and restaurants that abound in the area where Saint Germain and the Latin Quarter meet, just off the Boulevard St Michel and next to the Luxembourg Gardens. There are bars and several affordable Japanese restaurants on the same street. At the weekend noise from the bars can travel, there is double glazing but very light sleepers should request a room on higher floor or at the back of the hotel.
An internet station is operated with cards from reception.
Rooms at Le Clos Medicis are compact but retain a sense of space – some feature high ceilings and old wooden beams. All have been renovated in the last couple of years in a modern, unpretentious style. The décor is simple yet sophisticated – rich colours in solid blocks using different textures for variety rather than patterns. Furniture is limited to essentials – a comfortable bed (double in the classic rooms, queensize/twin in superiors upwards), a narrow bureau and chair, minibar and tv. Those most recently renovated have built in flat screen tvs. A safe is housed in the small wardrobe which with the chest of drawers is perfectly adequate for a short break. On the walls, a large mirror and well chosen art or photos, stylishly framed.
Bathrooms feature rustic floor tiles and either a bath with shower attachment and a glass splash door, or a spacious shower.
The hotel is under the same ownership as Villa des Orangers in Marrakech, and whilst Le Clos Medicis is a hotel on a simpler level, the stylishness and relaxed ambiance are evident at both.
