Centrally located on the Rue des Beaux-Arts, in the up-market Paris district of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, L’Hotel is within walking distance of the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Pompidou Center.
Simply called L’Hotel, Harper’s Bazaar declares it the “Best Urban Hotel in the World”. Certainly it is one of the best luxury hotels in Paris with its Michelin starred ‘Le Restaurant’. Chef Philippe Belissent has made his mark on Le Restaurant and on Paris with his stunning gastronomic creations. Rack of lamb with sweet chestnuts may be followed with one of the exquisite desserts which take nearly as much time and planning as the main courses.
This opulent luxury hotel has 20 rooms which can only be described as decadent. Heavy drapes and canopies of satin and damask make each individually designed room, created by designer Jacques Garcia, a work of art. L’Hotel had connections with Oscar Wilde in the 19th century, and his image adorns the key fobs and plaque outside the front door. One room is based on Oscar Wilde’s dining room in London with peacocks embossed on the green leather wall coverings; photographs and correspondence with him concerning his unpaid bill now hang in the lobby. Bookcases, antique light-fittings and traditional paintings decorate the spectacular guest rooms. Below stairs there is a swimming pool, steam room and spa services.
There is nothing cheap about the finish of this indulgent décor, and neither is the price, but if your heart is set on staying in one of the best boutique hotels in Paris, with sterling service and a world-class restaurant, then L’Hotel is the place of choice. It was certainly good enough for Mick Jagger, Johnny Depp and Keanu Reeves, who have all spent a comfortable night or two in this bijou residence.
