The luxury Hotel de Rome opened its doors in 2006 in an existing building which dates back to 1889. It was the former headquarters of the Dresdner Bank and has grand coffered ceilings and stucco work appropriate to its former status. The architectural splendor and ornate design are lifted with a contemporary twist by designer Tommaso Ziffer along with Olga Polizzi and her team. Interesting features such as the grenade shrapnel embedded in the wood paneling are a reminder of historic events from World War 2. The gorgeous 19th century marble staircases are decorative features worthy of their preservation in this top hotel in Berlin.
