Samode Palace
By MahootLying in the Aravalli Hills, north of Jaipur, Samode Palace is a magnificent example of Rajput-Mughal architecture and boasts some of the finest frescoes and mirror-work in the state. The owners are very much involved and it is their exquisite taste which has produced some of the most stunning rooms and suites to be found in any heritage hotel. It is a huge, sprawling palace with endless different wings, terraces, courtyards and levels. The dreamy rooms are scattered all over the building and each is gorgeous, colourful and unique. The cuisine is superb and comprises Indian and international menus, whilst the wine list is similarly extensive. Perhaps the highlights, however, are the magnificent swimming pool which will tempt you never to leave, and the vast Royal Suites with their balconies and Jacuzzis.

A unique camp, situated in incomparably beautiful Mughal gardens, Samode Bagh comprises a collection of extremely comfortable tents lined around the gardens. They are fixed structures with excellent bathrooms, and are beautifully decorated in block-printed fabrics of earthy colours and designs. The gardens are replete with pavilions and fountains, lawns and flowerbeds, criss-crossing pathways and shady places to sit and read or to listen to the birds, undisturbed. The beautiful swimming pool is in the pavilion, which is also home to an airy, pillared sitting area and a terrace, bursting with plants. A green and peaceful place – the only Mughal garden which is a hotel.
