Detailed Review
Nestled between the pristine, wave-sung sunset beach of Canggu, the whispering rice fields, the quaint fishermen village, and the adjacent Batu Bolong Temple, one of Bali's most sacred, Hotel Tugu Bali is said to be an experience too surreally beautiful to be true. As is the case with the creation of the other Tugu properties, Hotel Tugu Bali was built upon a passion for the romantic beauty of the art, history and culture of the islands of Java and Bali. A vast collection of priceless Indonesian antiques and artworks adorned the many faces of the hotel, blending pure tropical luxury with an out-of-the-ordinary ambience.
The staff takes care of guests with the exceptional beauty, grace and thoroughness for which Asian hospitality is known. In the gourmet side, Tugu Bali presents the rare opportunity to savor superb ancient dining experiences, some of which have vanished from the island's nowadays life. Like the other Tugu hotels, Tugu Bali is one of the references in culinary art in the island, catering to the President of Indonesia even beyond Bali.

"An exotic and imaginative spa retreat for the unrepentently sybaritic, set amongst quaint paddy fields near the Batu Bolong Temple."
Tugu Bali
By John Borthwick
The Tugu at Canggu (pronounced Chang-oo), far up a very long beach from madding Kuta, is as much an art gallery as it is a hotel. My suite one of 26 has teak floors, an antique four-poster canopy bed, a separate massage area with a sunken circular tub-for-two, and windows opening towards the sea. Other Tugu accommodation includes the spectacular Le Mayeur Pavilion (honouring a celebrated 1920s Belgian expat painter) that is the favourite and frequent Bali resting place of Indonesias former President Megawati Soekarnoputri.
Hotel Tugu Bali reflects it owners passion for the romantic beauty of the art, history and culture of Java and Bali. Priceless Indonesian antiques adorn the hotel, creating an out-of-the-ordinary ambience. Its then just a few steps away to the beach. The sands are grey and volcanic, the surf is less crowded and Kutas bungy-jumpers, hair-braiders and endless, walking supermarket of hawkers are far away.
