"One of the Eternal City's established Grande Dames with an acclaimed new restaurant and famously spectacular views"
Hotel Hassler Villa Medici
By Daniel Scott
Stay at the small Hassler-Medici, perched atop of the Spanish Steps and you are likely to feel very special indeed. The Hassler aims to make its guests feel as if they have come home and though this is only realistically possible if you happen to live in a palace, staff do try hard to be welcoming and helpful. However, the hotels Roman hospitality doesnt come cheap, with even a coffee in the courtyard costing around 10 times what it would in a nearby café. The Hasslers classically-decorated rooms are a fair size and have the latest technology but few share the quality of the views over Rome from its roof-top restaurant. If you are looking for somewhere cool (in terms of temperature at least) and quiet for a drink or coffee in central Rome then you could drop in on the Hassler-Medicis ivy-clad inner courtyard where Princess Diana was prone to hiding out with her favourite Bellini cocktail.
