Simple traditional
Visitors to the Vatican cannot stay much closer than the Hotel Sant’Anna on Borgo Pio. The delightful 16th century hotel is right in the shadow of St Peter’s Basilica, which gives guests a head start on the crowds in the morning. This charming boutique hotel is also convenient for the Piazza Adriana and the Castel Sant’Angelo. Public transport is easily available to the other major sights of Rome and the metro station is approximately 10 minutes walk away.
The Borgo Pio is pedestrianized during the day, which makes it pleasant and easy to walk along. It is lined with delightful local trattorias and cafes so there is always somewhere open to eat and drink.
Hidden behind its modest frontage, the Sant’Anna Hotel is a delightful boutique hotel. The 20 individually decorated rooms have ornate ceilings and cornices, frescoes on the walls, bright windows and sumptuous marble bathrooms. Modern mirrors and luxury bathroom fittings complement the marble tiling and heavy marble countertops. As you would expect, air conditioning breezes out keeping the spacious rooms cool and fresh. Telephone, satellite TV and minibar complete the comfortably furnished rooms. Some rooms also enjoy a small balcony with outdoor seating.
Buffet-style breakfast is served in the charming dining room, beneath the artfully painted murals and it is included in the room rate. The outdoor courtyard is a pleasant place to relax in the shade at the end of the day. Hotels in Rome are reputedly expensive, but the Sant’Anna Hotel provides excellent value for money. The prices are surprisingly affordable for such a prime location.
The staff at the Sant’Anna Hotel speak excellent English, although a few words of Italian are always appreciated. They give a warm personal welcome and happily recommend good restaurants and places to visit in the neighbourhood. There is a small business centre at the hotel but the internet connection may be a little slow.
Hotel Sant’Anna is an excellent choice for a boutique hotel in Rome offering comfortable rooms and excellent staff.
