Detailed Review
As Rome’s most celebrated avenue, Via Veneto is the cradle of "la dolce vita" immortalized by Fellini. It is also home to the recently refurbished The Westin Excelsior, Rome - its most distinguished address. Named to Conde Nast Traveler’s 2005 Gold List, our hotel is a monument to turn-of-the-century style. Our spacious guest rooms boast rich custom fabrics, Imperial, Renaissance and Biedermeier style furnishings, as well as walls and ceilings hand-decorated by master artisans. Built in grand turn-of-the-century style and recently renovated, each guest room and suite features the Westin Heavenly Bed and is decorated with custom wall coverings and crystal chandeliers. The Presidential, Imperial, and Villa La Cupola suites provide incomparable service, expansive living, and an unequalled level of comfort and elegance.

"Old-fashioned grandeur on the Via Veneto and one of the world's largest suites with its own cinema, steam bath and wine cellar."
Westin Excelsior
By Jamie Dunford Wood
This is the classic Via Veneto hotel in Rome, acquired and refurbished by Westin. They have done a magnificent job, as always, with the ground floor reception areas oceans of marble, acres of gilt detailing, lashings of Aubusson and a warehouse full of French Empire furnishings. Today, says the brochure, all Rome meets at the Excelsior. You can see why they might, although its not entirely true. Upstairs, everything smells new. Wide corridors, sumptuous carpeting and more repro French Empire furniture leads into spacious rooms in the traditional Westin L-shape, with large closets and pink marble bathrooms. The colours are pure Westin mulberry, duck blue fabric walls, swagged beds, busy carpets and inlaid wood. The Deluxe rooms have 2 windows and two sinks, and most are high ceilinged, some even with fireplaces. Verdict? A Westin makeover par excellence. The old soul of the place has fled down the road to its junior cousins the Majestic and the Ambasciatori. Lets hope she returns.
