Loggiato dei Serviti
By Jamie Dunford Wood
A top choice for hotels of character in Florence, the Loggiato dei Serviti is in a charming converted Renaissance palazzo just steps from Michealangelo’s David. Many rooms are frescoed, baldachinos grace some of the beds, and cool stone, high ceilings and some hand-painted furnishings add historic authenticity. The piazza is pedestrianised but not always quiet, as this in the student quarter, its only drawback. The management is friendly and family oriented. Ask for a room with a view of the Duomo. There’s an old fashioned bar full of antiques, and fine architectural prints.
