Traditional Country House
The Albergo Quattro Fontane is one of a select number of hotels to be located on the island known as the ‘Lido’, which separates Venice from the Adriatic Sea. With gorgeous white sand beaches it is a beautiful place to stay, out of the reach of Venice’s frenetic activity. The Lido is famous for its watersports and its Benedictine monastery. It is just 12 minutes ferry ride across the lagoon to the sights of Venice, which include the Basilica and Piazza San Marco, the magnificent Doge’s Palace and the wonderful palazzo and historic churches of the city.
Step inside the Albergo Quattro Fontana and feel like you are visiting the home of a distant relative. This lovely country house on the popular Lido is one of the most understated luxury hotels in Venice.
With just 60 rooms, the quiet reading spaces, public areas and terraced garden are comfortable and welcoming, yet offer a totally different experience to the glittering five star luxury hotels just across the lagoon. Pleasantly furnished, all the rooms are spacious and have comfortable sitting areas, tasteful furniture, air conditioning, refrigerators and cable TV.
The hotel gardens themselves make this a great choice for those looking for well-priced accommodation that puts some distance between themselves and the hyper-activity in Venice. They are filled with colour and ramble around the old villa, offering delightful nooks of privacy. La Casetta is a small guest studio in the grounds which is separate from the main hotel. The Barchessa offers similar accommodation but on a larger and grander scale. The grounds also include tennis courts and the hotel restaurant.
Dining in the Albergo Quattro Fontane restaurant is a unique pleasure. The beautiful dining room has striking black and white tiled flooring and a notable 15th century fireplace. On warmer evenings, tables are set out under the plane trees and dinner is served by candlelight, and if you are lucky, by moonlight too. Serving surprisingly good, sophisticated cuisine, the restaurant is popular with locals and vacationers alike.
