Detailed Review

Although Ca' della Corte is classified as a guest house, it functions just like a hotel with a 24-hour reception available for anything guests may need. In a quiet residential area, just five minutes from the rail station or Piazzale Roma (the main car and bus park), Ca' della Corte is just a short walk from all the most important places in the city. It is an ideal place for a family vacation, business trip or the stopover traveller, catering for both short- and long-term stays.

A recently renovated XVI Century Venetian Palazzo, Ca' della Corte provides various types of accommodation suitable for all kinds of guests. Breakfast is served in the room. All rooms have bathroom, hairdryer, mini bar, phone, cable TV, air-conditioning and hot drink facilities, and most have lovely views of the neighbouring gardens and palazzi.

The rooms are individually furnished and range from a cosy attic room, to the junior suites with parquet floors and Venietian chandeliers to the blue suite with original leaded glass gothic windows. They are spacious enough to be converted into triple or quadruple rooms, making it an ideal place for groups or families (cots for infants are provided free of charge). Ca' della Corte also offers a variety of self-catering apartments, ideal for families and friends travelling together. They range from studios to 2- or 3- bedroom apartments, all within short walking distance of Ca' della Corte. The English-speaking staff ensures that guests are made to feel welcome in a warm, homely environment.

    Ca della Corte
    By Vanessa Kaoukji

If you think that staying in Venice is all about being close to St Mark’s square, think again. The Ca della Corte is in the north west corner of the popular Dorsoduro district - a 20 minute walk from the packed main square but only a 5 minute walk from Piazzale Roma. Its also right beside the bustling and less touristy Campo Santa Margherita which is a favourite with university students so you will be guaranteed hip bars, cool café’s and cheerful restaurants. And once you have mastered the route, you can walk to the Rialto Bridge in an unhurried 10 minutes. And its in this quiet, pretty part of town, you will be welcomed like one of the family into the 16th Century building that has become the Ca della Corte under the direction of Caterina and her family. This hotel is suited to families or people looking for a bit of space. The rooms are enormous by Venetian standards, unfussy and clean, although bathrooms are on the small side. The two suites are more traditionally and carefully decorated. The Piano Suite, as the name suggests, hosts a grand piano, and the Marco Polo Suite has only recently been used for hotel guests – previously it was a private room. The hotel also has a roof terrace which is barely used, so you will often find you have it to yourself for a whole afternoon. For a real taste of Venetian grandeur, Caterina has recently purchased a small two storey palazzo next door to the hotel which can host banquets or wedding receptions with full catering provided (they can also provide a priest or registrar, and can probably drum up some witnesses if needs be). If you’re looking for a bit more independence the hotel also rents out apartments in a canal side building even closer to the Campo Santa Margherita. The apartments vary in size and style – a studio on the ground floor is often rented out by artists, one apartment on the second floor has a funky seventies feel, and the others are spacious, light and functional. The multi-talented Annarosa will provide you with maps and information about Venice, the do’s and don’ts, the places to see and not to see. On the side she also runs meditation classes (for groups of 6 or more) will take walking tours of the city, or tours of the wine regions of the Veneto. In fact, practically anything can be organised – it’ll be a challenge to come up with an idea that they haven’t already thought out in detail. Thinking about cookery courses, art classes or even fabric printing? Speak to Annarosa. You will be short of nothing at the Ca della Corte. But this little out-of-the-way hotel is becoming well known - news of it has spread (presumably word-of-mouth plays a large part), and this friendly, family run, inexpensive hotel fills up quickly and it deserves to.
