The hotel was pretty much what I was looking for
- a charming.characterful hotel centrally located inVenice. The courtyard/garden was a real treat - breakfastin the morning there was a great way to start the day and sitting there for a short break in the afternoon was also a calming experience after the hustle & bustle of tourists in Venice. Staff were friendly & efficient (certainly byItalian standards!). Being right next to St Mark's is fabulous as wellOf course these benefits do come at some sort of price - its not cheap to stay anywhere in venice is it?. The room & bathroom are pretty basic and having aroom with a garden view sounds great but actually means breakfast in the morning wakes you up & how much time do you really want to spend in your room looking at the garden? I'm not sure that I would do that again. I would recommend the hotel though for anyonewanting to go to Venice for a romantic weekend where you want a simple. fun weekend with character but without thesterile efficiency of chains. Make sure to request a river viewroom. It is not the most modernhotel. and if this is what you are looking for you needto stay in a big name hotel chain where the staff treat you as a stranger off the street vs. as a member of the family as is the case at theHotel Gellert. However our first night we had a room thatoverlooked the road which was really too loud in respect to traffic noise (even with windows shut) as. being by the trafficlights. there is a lot of acceleratingtraffic. We moved to a rear facing room that made a hugedifference and we were very happy there. I think they have spoiled the place a bit byfitting replacement laminate flooring throughout the bedrooms. corridors and diningroom. Perhaps a touch of modernisation that didn'treally seem to have worked. Still. very central and easy to get to and from theairport by train (no changes needed). ,,Anthony Swift,Pretty good. excellent location,We really enjoyed our visit toValencia and I thought the Neptuno was a great place to stay for a visit to the city ? the new tram line goes from a few hundred yards away right to the centre and a taxi is only about Euro10. so you can stay right on the beach and yet visitthe centre as well. The hotel itself was pretty good; the bedroomand bathroom were a bit cramped. maybemaybe. but free broadband in the room isgreat. The gym wasOK. nice to have but if you want someexercise. the path along the beach is straight and flat formiles. There is a sun deck on the roof which is a goodsuntrap for those who want. We had a very good meal indeed in therestaurant one night ? Euro40 per head for several courses of ?menu de degustation? and the food was outstanding. And the hotel is right by a row of very livelybeachside bars and restaurants. so you are spoiled for choice in that respectreally. And Robert Pires was staying the hotel whilewe were there. tootoo. so we really felt we were rubbing shoulders withthe famous!
