The Pensione Accademia is in the quieter, historic Sestiere Dorsoduro district of Venice, close to the Grand Canal and the Accademia Gallery and just a couple of streets away from the nearest Vaporetto stop. It is within easy walking distance of the Palazzo Grassi, the famous Fenice theatre, the Basilica and the Doge’s Palace in Piazza San Marco. This area is full of beautiful palazzo which line the streets and canals, along with many fine old churches. Excellent shopping is a short walk away in the smart shopping district of the Salizzadi di San Moise.
Although the Pensione Accademia is not in the league of some of the grand luxury hotels in Venice, it is well located and particularly popular due to its very competitive prices. This delightful boutique hotel is set in a former 17th century villa and unusually enjoys two delightful garden areas which are much appreciated by the guests. Sitting in the sunshine on one of the deckchairs beneath the arbour, surrounded by statuary and a small fountain, it is hard to get motivated to explore the city beyond these walls. Guests at the Pensione Accademia are offered a full buffet breakfast of cereals, fruits and cheeses which is served in the garden during the warmer months of the year.
This popular boutique hotel in Venice’s quieter backstreets has just 27 rooms, including two garden suites. They are in keeping with the rest of the hotel – well kept, comfortable and decked with period antiques and furnishings. The plain pastel walls are decorated with tasteful prints. The rooms have traditional wooden parquet floors while the delightful chandeliers add a touch of luxury and are in perfect proportion to the attractive rooms. This small but charming old villa offers a concierge and room service, but no on-site restaurant, hence its 3-star category. However, Venice has an ample selection of excellent restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes.
For those who are looking for very affordable boutique hotel accommodation in a typical Venetian villa, with the added benefit of a garden to relax in, the Pensione Accademia would suit you down to the ground. However, its popularity means that it is always well-booked in advance.
