Detailed Review
The Pensione Accademia is in the Dorsoduro district, one of the most peaceful areas of Venice. It is well-known for its location adjacent to the Grand Canal, and for its two large gardens wich offer the possibility of having relaxing moments. A full buffet breakfast is served with cereals, season's fruits, cheese and yougurt, to start for a perfect day, during the summer season it is served in the front garden. The pensione is close to the Accademia Gallery in a 17th century villa, with rooms that let you re-live the magnificence of the " Serenissima ".

"Venice's best kept secret - a well-priced, charming, 17th-century palace with enchanting gardens, located near the Grand Canal."
Accademia Villa Maravege

Its easier to book the Danieli than the Pensione Accademia, a delightful rambling patrician 16thC palace with its own docking point just a few steps from the Grand Canal. Owned and managed by the Salmaso family, who also have the Ala and the Do Pozzi, it has long feted by the guidebooks, and you can see why blessed with not just one garden but two, its full of people lazing under banana trees reading Howards End, just too happy to be here to be bothered to traipse round the even more famous Accademia nearby. The garden in the back is full of roses and deckchairs, with a delightful ivy-clad arbour leading to a small fountain, while statuary graces the front. Breakfast is taken here in fine weather. The 29 rooms are done in the Venetian style, with antique furnishings, cool, plain walls, good-looking framed prints, parquet floors, and little Venetian chandeliers the larger ones every bit as good as some of the Venetian rooms at the Danieli, for instance. Perhaps the best rooms to book are in the garden, if you are not on too much of a budget. One, Thelma, is a superior double, while the other two, Giorgia and Fontana del Diavolo, are suites, but still under 300 euros.
