Moroccan Riad
Situated in the heart of the medina, this luxury hotel is close to all the city’s activities yet tucked away in the quiet area of the ‘Mouassine’. It is right next to the Dar El Bacha Palace and is just a few steps from all the activities and entertainment in Jemaa El Fna Square. This authentic riad is within easy walking distance of the souks, the Koutoubia Mosque and the Bahia Palace. Other Marrakech attractions are the Majorelle Gardens and the many palaces and museums of this vibrant city.
With just 6 bedrooms arranged riad-style in this traditional Moroccan home, the Dar Al Kounouz is a true boutique hotel. Once part of the king’s palace, it took six years to convert the 130-year old riad into the comfortable boutique hotel it is today.
Rooms are individually designed, each with its own theme and character and the personal service by the owners is exceptional. Adequately furnished with air-conditioning, satellite TV and bathrobes, the most romantic room is the Ivoire, with its lacy four-poster bed. The Cannelle and Lapiz guest rooms open onto the gallery. Each room has its own bathroom but be aware that Jade’s bathroom is down the hallway.
The roof terrace of this charming boutique hotel offers views of the city from the flower-bedecked sitting area. The library area has comfy armchairs set around the fireplace and is lit through the stained glass cupola. Breakfast is included in the room rate and other meals will be personally cooked for guests as required. Salads, tagines, couscous and other local dishes prepared by the talented chef will add to the pleasure of staying in this delightful riad.
The thoughtful service at the Dar Al Kounouz is quite unmatched in any other boutique hotel in Marrakech. Coffee is served in thermos jugs and ice cubes are carefully made from bottled mineral water. Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly brothers who warmly welcome guests to their comfortable boutique hotel.
