The Riad Zina has seen 350 years of history from its position in the centre of the medina of Marrakech. Tucked down a small lane in the Riad Laarous quarter, it is located to the north of the medina, allowing guests to easily reach all the attractions of the city. This boutique hotel is located at the gateway to the souks, a perfect location for those who want to explore the narrow streets and shops of this ancient city on foot. Other attractions include the Jemaa el Fna Square, the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace and the Majorelle Gardens.

Truly an authentic local riad and one of the smallest boutique hotels in Marrakech, the Riad Zina has just 4 rooms. Totally renovated by Beate Prinz in 1998, this charming hotel now offers all the modern comforts of a luxury hotel within the original architecture and style of a traditional riad home. The street door leads though a small entrance hall and then, in true riad-style, opens out into a courtyard with rooms which open onto it. The central fountain is surrounded by relaxing garden areas full of plants and there is a also a shady lounge and roof-top terrace for relaxing and sunbathing. The thick walls of the riad keep out all but the faintest sounds of the city and the mournful calls to prayer, making this the ultimate urban escape.
The fusion of styles blends Paco Rabanne fabrics with local furnishings, and designer wardrobes are set off with contemporary décor. The guest rooms of this German-owned boutique hotel are comfortable and tasteful. The Moroccan handicrafts and handpainted floor tiles mix colourfully with the more contemporary lighting. Private bathrooms are modern and amply equipped to European standards.
Offering excellent value for money, this mini boutique hotel in Marrakech is highly recommended for a delightful flavour of East culture, yet with all the modern trappings of 21st century living.

Guesthouse Riad Zina is at the entry to the souks, just a brief walk from the Koutoubia, The Jeema-el Fna square and all the main attractions in Marrakech.

350 years old and situated in the heart of the Medina, Beate Prinz's small riad boasts a roof terrace and small salon. The main suite - Al Kamar - has its own private terrace and painted ceiling. Each room is carefully decorated - a charming, quiet oasis.

Riad Zina is vibrant, funky and fun – from the cacti in the courtyard and the long leather banquettes that are just made for lounging around, to the original chairs dotted around, to contemporary cupboards you would never imagine are made in Morocco. Coloured sand hanging on the wall, bright beads, retro lamps and shimmering wall hangings – interesting objects meet your gaze wherever it lands, and the two tortoises searching for toes to nibble add to the sense of kitsch.
The spacious suite decorated in shades of red has tall arched doorways, a high domed ceiling with a skylight, two low double beds and a single so it can sleep up to five. There is a further double room on the first floor and two more on the ground floor (one with a private but not ensuite shower room), each decorated individually, a unique blend of cultures and eras. The relaxed vibe continues on the roof terrace where more low level seating nestles under the shade of fabric printed with a ‘60s pattern.
Riad Zina is a great place for couples, friends or families and is ideal for renting whole. The vivacious German owner has plans for a new project across the Straits of Gibraltar, in Tarifa. Watch this space.
