Detailed Review

The Seven One Seven offers the discerning traveller all the grandeur of a classical 19th century guesthouse with all the modern conveniences to which one is entitled. Each guest is welcomed in an atmosphere of cordiality and full respect for complete privacy and comfort in this unique boutique hotel along the canal. The magnificent facade of the house - a listed historical building with dark green shutters - merely provides a hint of there beauty of the interior. The front of the Seven One seven opens to an old marble hallway, from which an oak stairway leads to two splendid grand suites overlooking the 17th-century Prinsengracht canal in front of the house, and to six spacious suites and rooms at the back overlooking two patios. After a day of business meetings or after exploring the splendid city, the guests are pampered with tea, pastries and drinks, either in their rooms or in the lounge or the patio as part of the A feeling of home far away from home’ hotel ethos.

Press Quotes

"Seven-One-Seven, on the Prinsengracht, is beautiful and wickedly comfortable, with just eight rooms. You feel like you're staying with an enormously rich gay uncle who has the best taste." Conde Nast 04

    Seven One Seven
    By Gemma Pitcher

Seven One Seven is a listed historical building, an eighteenth century townhouse whose dark green shutters open on to an old marble hallway, from which an oak stairway leads to the rooms - two splendid grand suites overlooking the 17th century Prinsengracht canal in front of the house, and six faultlessly decorated suites at the back overlooking two patios. Each room is named after a famous artist or musician - ask for Mozart or Schubert for canal views. Compact disc player, television, VCR, antique furniture, finest linens and fresh Dutch flowers are standard. Original modern and classical artworks adorn the walls. Breakfast is served in the rooms, in one of the two magnificently upholstered parlours – complete with Irish tweed curtains and grand piano - or on the sunny garden terrace. The Prinsengracht is one of Amsterdam’s most patrician canals, replete with antique shops, art galleries, and interesting little boutiques. Seven One Seven is ideally located in the heart of of the city and is within walking distance of the Concertgebouw, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum and the Municipal Museum of Modern Art. Large Dutch breakfast, house wine, snacks and tea included. Great CD/DVD library. Smoking and pets allowed. There’s no lift, and the narrow wooden stairway is quite a climb to the top.

Discreet and luxurious, this exclusive guest house in Amsterdam has 8 spacious rooms and suites, and booking way in advance is essential. The listed historical building is positioned in a quiet residential area on one of the most elegant canals in the city. The ambiance at Seven One Seven is akin to staying with well-heeled cosmopolitan friends.

Designed by Kees van der Valk, Seven One Seven is a haven of elegant and refined taste. The hall has a marble floor, leading to two salons filled with paintings, objets d’art, sculptures and well-chosen antiques, with open fires. The library, housing books on art, fashion and the interiors of Amsterdam, can hold meetings of up to seven.

Seven One Seven’s rooms are uniquely decorated in a style that blends traditional with contemporary. Colours are strong but restful, sofas and chairs are large and comfortable, and beds are inviting. The televisions and DVD players are designed by Bang & Olufsen. The smallest room is a spacious 40m2 and the two suites that overlook the Prinsengracht are 70m2. Bathrooms are luxurious, all but two of which have separate baths and showers. There is no lift and the oak staircase is steep, but the top-floor room has panoramic views that reward the climb.

A traditional Dutch breakfast is served either in the bedrooms or in the Stravinksy room, a light and airy space with flowers on every table, a grand piano and French doors that open up onto the tranquil patio.

The rates include breakfast, afternoon tea, CDs and DVDs from the in-house selection, house wines and drinks from the minibar. Seven One Seven has the style of a smart English country house that has been transported to a canal house in Amsterdam, with a high level of service and a relaxed atmosphere – guests are often returnees.
