Elegant classic
This delightful boutique hotel in Lisbon’s historic centre overlooks the busy Tagus River which is close by. The National Ancient Art Museum is right next door and the lovely Rua das Janelas Verdes (Place with Green Windows) is close by. The hotel is just a short walk from the Teatro National de Sao Carlos. The St George’s Castle and the magnificent Cathedral are easily reached on foot or using public transport, along with all the historic attractions of Lisbon.
The Janelas Verdes Hotel is a beautiful 18th century palace surrounded by similarly attractive historic buildings. Offering beautiful home-from-home accommodation, this boutique hotel in Lisbon’s historic district has been beautifully restored with comfortable lounge sitting areas, 29 spacious guest rooms and suites and a pleasant bar.
This boutique hotel was once the palace home of the famous Portuguese novelist, Eça de Queirós and he used the Janelas Verdes as the setting in his novels. Certainly he would still feel at home here among the antique paintings, mementoes and objets d’art which make this such a unique boutique hotel.
The rooms are bright and sunny but quite small, in keeping with the original palacio. However they are beautifully decorated and tastefully appointed in a homely, individual style. Mixing elegant antique furnishings with 21st century technology, the rooms are a comfortable, pleasant place to relax. Air conditioning, internet access, cable TV and a tea and coffee maker all make the accommodation practical as well as comfortable. The thoughtful finishing touches are the complimentary use of an umbrella and the bedside decanter of port.
Breakfast is a treat to be enjoyed buffet-style in the Maias room or in the garden when the weather is warm. This comfortable luxury hotel has an excellent library where guests can relax quietly and enjoy the views of the River Tagus. The bar area leads to an outdoor rooftop terrace with some of the best views in Lisbon. There is also porter service, laundry, an honor bar and room service. Although the hotel does not have its own restaurant there are plenty of delightful places to eat nearby.
