Newly renovated, this luxury hotel now has 212 fine rooms and suites, with chic designer colors and furnishings. The décor is contemporary, somewhat at odds with the historic building, but rooms and suites are bright, clean and spacious. Some have excellent views of Las Ramblas, which can be a little noisy at night on the lower floors.  

All rooms have internet access, a minibar, tea and coffee-facilities (a big plus!), air-conditioning and cable TV. They also include a personal safe large enough to hold a laptop. Billing is cruise-ship modern, and can be monitored on the bedroom TV, or even from the bathroom TV whilst soaking in the tub if so desired. Most suites have terraces, vast luxury bathrooms and a separate dressing area.

The emphasis here is on service, and Le Meridien upholds its own high standards. Front desk staff speak good English and the doorman is second to none, hailing cabs, holding doors and loading luggage without fuss. Room service also is very efficient and speedy. Valet parking is available, another surprising amenity in this busy city centre hotel. No wonder the guest book is full of such celebrity names as Pavarotti, Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones and Madonna.
