Hotel Es Quo Puerta del Sol

This central Madrid hotel is right in the busy centre of the city next to the Puerta del Sol and the famous ‘Kilometro Cero’. From this point all the distances in Spain are counted, and it’s here that the clock strikes on New Year and everyone eats 12 grapes for good luck.
Hotel Puerta del Sol is a 4-star but with no restaurant. The reception is on the street side and looks simple with a wooden counter and windows to the street. The hotel does not have a lounge – just some easy chairs beyond check-in. They do an extensive buffet breakfast in the morning. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Rooms facing the busy street are double glazed, so noise – and this is the centre of the city remember – is kept to a minimum. Other rooms are facing the side street and don’t have the view but are quieter. The superior rooms on the 7th floor have a terrace and one has a Jacuzzi. Views are great from the terraces and wide enough to take the sun in summer.
All rooms are decorated with dark wood, white walls and dark grey headboards and curtains in a velvet like material. There is a modern feel to the hotel but at the same time it feels ‘solid’. Quality materials are used and it is a comfortable hotel in walking distance of ‘El Prado’ - and great for going out at night.
