Historic maritime
The Lord Nelson Hotel is located in the very centre of Gamla Stan in the heart of the Old City. It is ideally located in Stockholm for visiting the historic sights of the Royal Palace and the Cathedral. Other attractions nearby include the Nobel Museum and the Riddarholm Church. The cobbled streets are lined with old merchants’ houses, quaint restaurants and excellent shops making this a delightful area in which to stay. A shuttle bus links this luxury Stockholm hotel with Arlanda airport and runs every 30 minutes.
This nautically themed hotel is most appropriate in a city which is spread over 14 islands at the mouth of Lake Malaren. Those who have even a passing interest in marine history will be fascinated by the private collection of marine antiques displayed throughout this luxury Stockholm hotel. The pictures, medals, trophies and memorabilia have been collected over decades by the Bengtsson family, the owners of the Lord Nelson Hotel.
Built during the 17th century, this tall townhouse exudes the era of bygone sailing history. The building has its own unique character as it is less than 6 metres wide throughout, making it the narrowest hotel in Sweden. It was originally the home of Ignatius Mauer, a printer, who along with Göran Helsing printed the Karl X Bible. A copy is on display in the hotel lobby as part of the antique collection.
The guest rooms are novelly spread over the ‘decks’ including the Gun Deck, Middle Deck, Upper Deck, Quarter Deck and the upper Poop Deck with its magnificent views from the terrace. Opt for a single cabin or the larger Captain’s room. The rooms are by necessity quite compact but very comfortable and all have cable TV and WiFi internet connections as well as comfortable Swedish-made beds and a working desk.
The Lord Nelson’s Leijontornet restaurant is located in the old cellars and its delicious Nordic cuisine has been awarded a Michelin star. Altogether a delightful luxury hotel in Stockholm’s old city, offering its own historic charm.
