"Traditional family run guest house hotel"
Hotel Olden
By Christoph Hargreaves-Allen
Quaint and cosy, and so small that it feels like a private residence, the Olden has intimate rooms and bedrooms, all furnished in a way that is delightfully idiosyncratic for a hotel. Original features abound, in the way of wood-bound and hand-painted cabinets, for example, and the place is highly personally managed, with friendly and attentive, informal-style service. The Olden is very quiet and countrified - think of big, brown rawhide sofas in the drawing room. The bedrooms in this charming, traditional edifice, with its white front and peppermint-coloured shutters, have been renovated to state-of-the-art standards, and the style is high while remaining understated; discreet and un-commercial. It’s the closest thing you can get to staying with friends in Gstaad, and it’s been the place to stay for a long, long time. The restaurant below is renowned for its food. Be warned, there are a limited number of rooms. The Magic Mountain.com
