"Elegant and snug town centre classic"
Chesa Grischuna
By Christoph Hargreaves-Allen
A perennial classic located in the middle of town, the interior of the hotel is full to the brim with gnarled wood and bright painted wooden doors creating a small, rich, cosy chalet interior. The hotel is always buzzing, and is popular with the English, no doubt for its elegant snugness. Little orange lampshades hang off the wall and the scent of bacon climbs the stairs; a trunk made from one single wooden log is one of the many details that make the Grischuna special. Five storeys high, the building’s upper half is entirely wooden, with hand-painted shutters and pine windows. The dining room is a sweet timber-ceilinged affair with red checked table cloths and large banquettes stretching around the tables. Half of Hollywood has stayed at the Grischuna at one time or another: Julie Andrews, Peter Sellers, Britt Ekland, Roger Vadim, Kirk Douglas, Vivien Leigh, Audrey Hepburn, Robert Capra, Rex Harrison and Gene Kelly and many more have filled the bar. It’s amusing that such an unself-concious place has a such a wide-reaching reputation. The Magic Mountain.com
