Detailed Review

With its own lakefront promenade, stylish halls and exquisite guest rooms and suites, the Palace Luzern is central Switzerland’s leading city resort. Old-world elegance, complemented by the most up-to-date amenties, embraces each guest with outstanding Swiss hospitality. High quality materials, warm and welcoming design, exquisite aromas – they all combine to create the Mediterranean magic of the Jasper (16 points GaultMillau). Le Maritime, which enjoys a lovely lakeside location, is a superb summer open-air restaurant serving selected specialties. The PALACE Bar - cozy but classical English ambience, enhanced every evening by swinging piano music. PALACE Spa Food Light, seasonal dishes serve as a symbiosis between health and wellness. The purest natural products – selected with care and prepared to perfection – improve health, elevate performance and enhance beauty. Food products with a high degree of plant life nutrients such as cereals, vegetables and fruit are given preference over animal nutrients such as meat, fish and eggs. Emphasis is also placed on the reduced consumption of animal fats. PALACE Mood Food A real feast for the feelings – celebration for the soul. Savor the sensory experience of lifestyle-oriented enjoyment. Carbohydrates can work wonders when spirits are low. Sweet pleasures can help to revive the tired body. Chocolate stimulates the soul, pineapple fights off frustration, pasta’s a perfect merrymaker. And to really raise the temperature, a spicy Indian curry, a fiery wok dish, or exciting Italian pasta arrabbiata.

    Hotel Palace Luzern
    By Jamie Dunford Wood

As soon as you walk into this century-old hotel you cannot fail to be impressed by its elegance and sophistication. Quieter and less bustling than the National, not as overwhelmingly grand as the Schweizerhof, there is a cote d’azur feel here, with its pale orange awnings, cream walls and cool contemporary furnishings. Their motto, too, is encouraging: ’le nouvel art de vivre’. However, upstairs the 168 rooms are a little erratic. Mostly its the 5th and 6th floors that have been renovated, but these have low ceilings and lack character, although for lovers of separate power showers, you’ll find them here. Elsewhere colours are muted and the décor is looking tired, with old bathroom fittings, some without air-conditioning. Best of all are the first floor rooms, which have proper sit-out balconies overlooking the lake, and those that have been renovated come in a variety of colourways, from peach and cream to rich blue and pale yellow, with plain pale walls. Furniture mixes modern chrome and glass with repro antiques and French Empire lamps - plush corporate, and they will appeal to those who relish understatement. They also offer a ’Wellness Corner’ with massage and a solarium, but no pool.
