Ritz Carlton Dubai
By Vanessa Kaoukji
The Ritz Carlton is a beach front hotel situated on the current fringe of Dubai out towards al Ain. There is a lot of building work happening around the hotel, which suggests that this will not be the fringe for very much longer, but this doesn’t impinge on the guests’ peace and quiet. It is decorated in classical style with Arabian touches such as fountains and lattice woodwork. The feeling is of the colonial era: 40 varieties of tea are served in the afternoon; leather sofas dominate in the bar and there is even a cigar room where gentlemen can retire in the evenings and talk about hunting camel.
Rooms are understated and elegant. All have balconies and overlook the beautiful stretch of private beach. Even though it allows children of all ages and offers a crèche and baby sitting service, other resorts offer more activities for children. This is the only hotel in Dubai with a separate adult-only pool. The Balinese Spa with 10 treatment rooms looks inviting.
With 138 rooms, this is a comparatively small hotel and offers an old style elegance that is rare in Dubai.
