Detailed Review
This mouth-watering Malmaison is in the super-stylish Mailbox complex, once a 1960's Royal Mail sorting office, now home to an array of designer stores, including Harvey Nichols and Emporio Armani. The hotel is just a hop skip and a jump from New Street station, great shops fabulous night life close to the ICC, NIA and of course Birmingham's famous Bull Ring Centre. A destination in its own right the hotels bar & brasserie is a popular spot for locals to chill.
Reflective of a sophisticated modern city, a multi cultural society and our ever-widening tastes and expectations. This hotel is French in structure and discipline but surrounded by a sense of humour and a special informality. Malmaison Birmingham is a whole new world of hotel pleasure, just waiting to happen. Relax, taste and enjoy this Birmingham hotel.

"Cheap and chic with a spa, between city centre and canal, aimed at shoppers and business travellers alike"
Malmaison Birmingham
By Caroline Major
Old industrial Birmingham had been given a head start with funds from the European Regional Development Fund recently, replacing industry with retail in an effort to maintain a stake in the New Britain. This urban renewal offers a weekend break for some serious retail therapy. Inside the old Custard Factory, the Bullring and the Mailbox is a shop-aholics bliss - floors of futuristic shopping space painted with neon and sanitized with white - an indulgent escape from Old Blightys worst. Selfridges even landed a brand new building amongst the factories concentrating the essence of the development with all aluminium cladding and plastic moulding. The Jetsons, earths first family from space, would be at home shopping here. Burm it seems, got into bed with the European Union and woke up a fashionista. The Malmaison then, is the only hotel that fits with the fantasy. Flanked by Harvey Nichols, Emporio Armani and DKNY, the chain offers well heeled shoppers and savvy business travelers an address suitable for their carrier bags. Dark wood and neutral textiles accented with deep purple and crimson are slathered onto her large spaces. Rooms are spacious and common areas expansive. In-room, amenities are as standard as the service, but that just might be part of a minimalist philosophy at work. Like everything in Birmingham though, the label is key, with packaged servings of name brands vying for attention in the mini-bar, Mal Music in the CD Player and sales guff in the bathroom with the toiletries. There are no surprises here.
