Hope Street Hotel is Liverpool’s first boutique hotel. Centrally located in the city’s cultural quarter, between the cathedrals, across the road from the concert hall and surrounded by theatres and restaurants. Built in 1860 in the style of a Venetian palazzo - a delightful privately owned Design Hotel, passionately run with thoughtful service and comfortable contemporary interiors.
48 individually designed rooms, real wood floors warmed by under floor heating, king sized beds draped in Egyptian cotton and cashmere throws. Rain-dance showerheads the size of dinner plates, huge soft towels and mist free mirrors complement timeless bathrooms. Picture windows and skylights capture some of the stunning architecture that fills this part of the city and surround the hotel.

For Liverpool, the Hope Street Hotel is in a class of its own. Located in Hope Street it is convenient for visiting the Cathedrals and for reaching the centre of town without actually being in the middle of the centre, where the lively nightlife keeps the noise levels high. This is a sophisticated, elegant hotel - an oasis of comfort and calm in a busy city.
It has superbly comfortable rooms, with modern equipment (CD players, flat screen TVs, internet access) and bathrooms built for comfort and enjoyment. Suite 407 has the bathroom on a separate mezzanine level, with an enormous wooden bath, reminiscent of a large salad bowl, for complete relaxation.
The Hotel has a restaurant on the ground floor, the London Carriage Works that is lively and popular.
My only criticism was for the room service fare – the ham sandwich ordered to the room turned out to be exactly that – a piece of ham between two white slices. I think they could be more adventurous with their room service menu, but if you stick to the food from the Carriage Works, you won’t have to risk a disappointing sandwich.
If you’re not on a budget, there is nowhere better to stay, whether for families, singles or couples.
