Hotel Overview

The Capital is a unique townhouse hotel that offers luxury accommodation and personal service in the heart of Knightsbridge. Created by its Scottish proprietor, David Levin, 34 years ago, it is, to this day, a family-run hotel. With 49 suites and rooms, David Levin’s vision was to create a grand hotel in miniature. It is for this reason that every piece of furniture, work of art and accoutrement in the hotel is hand-picked by, or from the private collection of the Levin family. The exquisite interiors incorporate the work of some of Britain’s best-known designers. The beds were specially commissioned from Savoir, the mattresses hand-made and the sheets the finest Egyptian cotton.

The Capital Restaurant is legendary. From its opening in 1971, it became one of the first hotel restaurants in Britain to be awarded a Michelin star. In 2001 the restaurant and Head Chef Eric Chavot were awarded a second Michelin star which is retained to this day. M. Chavot’s critically acclaimed, French-inspired cuisine is perfectly complimented by the renowned, extensive and diverse wine list and the exemplary service. The restaurant and bar have recently undergone major re-design and now sport a suave, elegant, luxurious yet understated look inspired by the 1940s. Regularly attracting discriminating gourmets from around the world, both are a favourite meeting place. The Capital offers three private function rooms accommodating up to 24 people for any occasion at breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The Capital is situated in a quiet, yet central, residential street just a few steps from Harrods, Harvey Nichols and the designer shops and stylish boutiques of Sloane Street and Beauchamp Place. The Royal Parks, including Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens and St. James’s, plus the renowned South Kensington Museums are on the doorstop. Guests have access to a local exclusive health and beauty spa or the afternoons can be spent relaxing in the comfortable sitting room with a traditional English afternoon tea. On-site covered parking is also available.

The Capital Hotel is also just a short stroll from the fresh air of Hyde Park, where families stroll, joggers train and the Household Cavalry exercise their beautiful steeds.

Highlights and Features

If awards denote the best luxury hotels in London, then The Capital Hotel is the crème de la crème. It holds 5 AA Townhouse Red Stars and 4 Rosettes amongst many other awards. It is on the Conde Nast Traveller Gold List for ‘Best Hotel for Food’, received “Hotel of the year’ Visit London award and is one of Travel and Leisure’s Top 500 Hotels 2008. It also holds the coveted two Michelin stars for its gourmet cuisine. The discreet plaque at the entrance also shows the Capital Hotel is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and that is exactly what it is. It has retained the personal atmosphere and attention to detail of a family-owned hotel since its creation by David Levin in 1971.

This townhouse boutique hotel, in a quiet residential street, offers Five-Star accommodation in the centre of London with a choice of bedrooms, suites and fully-serviced apartments. With its unpretentious entrance, homely lobby and comfortably furnished rooms, it exudes all the comforts and taste of an English country house. There are just 49 guest rooms including a choice of suites, and they all enjoy air-conditioning, and super-king sized beds. All the usual distinctions of a luxury London hotel can be enjoyed here, from the Egyptian cotton bed linen and cozy bathrobes to the trouser press and thoughtful use of an umbrella. There is no lack of personal attention – concierge service, twice daily room service and pressing service, but Spa lovers may find it a little inconvenient to walk to the Peak Health Club and Spa to use their facilities.

For those who live to eat, rather than vice versa, the cuisine of Head Chef Eric Chavot and his team are reason enough to stay here. The intimate restaurant seats just 34, and continues the comfortable homeliness of understated exclusivity. With its excellent choice of fine wines and innovative cuisine, the restaurant completes the luxury package offered by the Capital Hotel.
