"Boston's best boutique - lush, chic rooms and stellar levels of service"
Fifteen Beacon
By Matthew Barker
Very handsome city centre comfort-zone with elegantly modish décor (rich hues, marble bathrooms, poster beds with Italian linen). Chatty but cultivated service. 61 rooms (two suites). They say: "Offers utter luxury in the trendiest pad in town" (The Daily Telegraph)
Hotel Attractions: The wonderfully clubby Federalist restaurant and bar adds a touch of Old New England (try lobster soup with pureed parsnip and fino sherry or the grilled quail salad). Krug in the mini bar; complimentary chauffeur to drop you into town (which is really no distance at all, but... what the heck). Fitness room rather than centre - but spa facilities can be arranged.
Local Attractions: The Fenway District - plenty of decent shopping to be had (try Matsu, Alan Bilzerian and Sola Men, all on nearby Newbury Street) and there’s a lively buzz about the place: Ri Ra’s is a good night-out (and quite a crawl back to the hotel, although pretty much in a straight line). Tealuxe tea bar (quite the thing this side of the pond) with maitre’d tea on hand to guide you through the 100+ varieties. Stephanie’s on Newbury for (proper) Caesar salad. The Childs Gallery has specialised in fine arts since the 1930s, while the Boston Center for the Arts and Ballet Theatre of Boston are further across town.
