Built in 1953 and designed by Morris Lapidus, this makes the Ritz Carlton almost historic in this rejuvenated Art Deco area. The grand entrance and lounge areas of this luxury hotel still retain the original sweeping lines and terrazzo floors along with the fabulous cherry-wood wall lit by 72 domed sconces. Other treasures include the Joan Miro etching and the massive wall mural by Miami’s own Xavier Calero whilst the general ship-style railings give a typical nautical look to this Art Deco relic.

The 375 rooms of this luxury hotel are suitably comfortable and plush with blue, green and gold colour schemes contrasting with the dark wood furniture. Although ceilings are low, a throw back to the original building design, rooms appear light and bright, especially those with outdoor balcony space overlooking the pool deck. The more modern poolside and ocean view lanai rooms are better proportioned.
