Detailed Review
This Soho property with a Midtown address is in the center of famous 5th Avenue shopping - Gucci, Fendi, Louis Vuitton and Prada. The location is significantly close to the uptown galleries and cultural highlights of New York: MOMA, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Inspired by the downtown art scene and neighboring International fashion houses, Chambers combines the industrial feel of an artist's loft with the luxuriousness of traditional fabrics; it feels like a wealthy art collector's Manhattan townhouse. Over 500 original artworks from the brightest up-and-coming artists are installed throughout the guestrooms, all part of a permanent collection.
A two-story fireplace dominates Chambers' lobby accentuated with leather covered columns and a large ebony and parchment reception desk. Alpaca sofas, oversized wooden and steel doors and distressed plaster walls instill an urban, yet relaxing atmosphere. Ride up in elevators with lit, exposed shafts to view the mechanics of the cables.
The 77 guestrooms feature platform beds covered in the finest of linens and cashmere throws. Felt ottomans in modern earth tones are set on Tibetan and Turkish rugs over walnut floors. Look inside the minibar to find mood-making scented candles and colored light bulbs. Flat screen TVs and DVD players are complemented with extensive DVD / CD library. The bathrooms with large rain showers, Bumble & Bumble amenities and Frette bathrobes complete the experience.

"A haute-designer haven, this minimalist design hotel attracts a rich, cultured crowd, not least for its excellent restaurant, Town."

Chambers
By Chloe Loyd
Discreetly hidden behind elegantly carved teak lattice doors, Chambers provides a welcome retreat from the hubbub that is midtown New York. The minimalist, designer lobby focuses around a double-sided fireplace and is sprinkled with comfortable low-rise seating. A spiral staircase leads up to a mezzanine bar and sitting area. A small, more classic bar beside the lobby leads down into the elegant and popular restaurant Town, a haven for lovers of haute cuisine with deep pockets. Art by established and up-and-coming artists adornd the walls with over 500 works in total throughout the hotel. Those in the public areas are vast conversation pieces and each of the 14 floors is decorated by a different artist.
The rooms
The spacious rooms are loft-like, akin to an artist’s studio with at least four original works in each room. Rooms are marked by natural wood floors with rugs, glass desks with theatrical lighting and large wide-screen flat tvs on the wall. Colours are sombre and natural, an elegant mix of browns, greys and creams. Most beds are king size with the softest of sheets and a choice of three types of pillow. A selection of coffee table design books fills the bookshelves. The stone-floored bathrooms are spacious and clean-cut. Aquamarine screens separate the huge multi-headed power shower from the deep luxury tub. Mosaic tiles are the only consent to detailed decor. A yoga-inspired directory offers an array services from personal shopping to DVD library. Suites boast large terraces where outside private dining is possible.
