American classic
The City Club Hotel is located in the heart of New York’s theatre district right on neon-lit Times Square. It is just half a block from the designer shops and boutiques of Fifth Avenue. This luxury hotel is conveniently close to the New York public library, Herald Square and within easy reach of the Empire State Building and Grand Central Terminal. The green oasis of Central Park is within walking distance along with most other well-known sights of the Big Apple.
This small luxury hotel offers a delightfully personal service to guests in its 62 rooms and 3 suites. Built in 1904 this former gentleman’s club offers a unimposing frontage marked only by a small plaque, yet it has a surprisingly luxurious, intimate interior. Offering an interesting marriage of classical elements and modern design brought together by designer Jeffrey Billhuber, the final result is a comfortable environment with a chic modern attitude.
Guest rooms are a pleasant combination of cork-covered flooring, neutral furnishing and dark marble finishes. They all include WiFi, DVDs and flat screen TVs. Mahogany furniture, feather beds and top quality frette linens mark this out as one of New York’s luxury hotels in the heart of theatreland. The dark marble bathrooms have a certain masculine appeal. Many rooms have retained their beautifully ornate plasterwork coving whilst artwork and lighting is contrastingly modern. The Duplex suites are certainly the best rooms in the hotel with their double-height Palladian windows.
The restaurant, DB Bistro Moderne offers french style cuisine from the kitchen of Chef Daniel Boulud. The restaurant is decorated in a fresh, contemporary style with banquette seating. Although the hotel does not have its own gym, guests are offered complimentary membership to the nearby New York Sports Club, guaranteeing the best of facilities.
The City Club Hotel is certainly one of the best located luxury hotels in New York. Although parking is scarce, the City Club hotel does offer guests parking at a discount across the road, a rare asset.
