Trendy urban
The Hotel Gansevoort is located in the SoHo district of New York in what is historically known as the Meatpacking District. Now a vibrant area of hip hotels and upmarket shops, this luxury hotel is close to the World Trade Centre site, Greenwich Village and the restaurants of Chinatown and Little Italy. Ferries frequently leave for nearby Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island. Manhattan’s other sights including the Empire State Building, the Broadway theatres, Times Square and Central Park can easily be reached by metro or taxi.
Featuring duplex suites, a spa and rooftop swimming pool, the luxury Hotel Gansevoort has much to recommend it as an urban resort. With 187 spacious luxury guestrooms and 23 stylish suites the Hotel Gansevoort melds together downtown bohemian style with uptown luxury. Suites enjoy fabulous panoramic views over the city and the Hudson River from the balconies. A fireplace, Jacuzzi and pool table complete these decadent duplexes.
Regular guestrooms are surprisingly sophisticated with lofty ceilings. The wall coverings in neutral greys and taupes contrast with touches of leather and textured fabric giving the rooms a contemporary feel. Translucent sheets of glass are backlit with an array of colours, to add a amazing centrepiece to the rooms. Custom designed sinks in the carrara marble bathrooms are finished with ceramic interiors. Big feather beds, Egyptian cotton sheets and iPod docking stations add to the urban appeal.
From the rooftop swimming pool there are 360 degree views of Manhattan while the soft music and underwater lighting add to the atmosphere of the Zen garden. The signature China Grill Restaurant under Jeffrey Chodorow shares this wonderful view from the indoor/outdoor dining area. The 4300 square foot spa neatly transforms into private function space when required. This luxury hotel also offers a well-equipped business centre and WiFi throughout the hotel.
Definitely a luxury hotel of note, this is one of the best urban oasis spa hotels in New York’s downtown area.
