The Pierre
By Daniel Scott
In a city as frenetic as the Big Apple it is a boon to come home to calm, and the venerable Pierre Hotel, is one place where tranquillity is guaranteed. Its location, on Fifth Avenue, opposite Central Park, is the major reason for this. But the hotel also manages to mix a sophisticated feel with friendly, low-key service. The street level Café Pierre restaurant epitomises this, serving refined food in a cheery atmosphere. The hotels concierge here are also particularly accommodating, offering opinionated views on which exhibitions and Broadway shows to catch while in town.
