Detailed Review
The Phoenix is San Francisco Bay Area’s boutique hotel of choice for up and coming rock stars. The Tenderloin neighborhood is a bit dodgy and the interiors are far from luxurious, but if you want to rub elbows with celebrities and rockers, or at least stay where they’ve stayed, then this is the boutique hotel for you. The funky vibe starts with the island bungalow decor- more quirky than stylish, and continues throughout with a laid back staff and free temporary tattoos.
The facilities
The courtyard has a heated outdoor pool and tropical garden filled with tribal-esque sculptures. Breakfast is served daily in the courtyard. The boutique hotel’s hip restaurant is called Bambuddha Lounge and serves Southeast Asian cuisine with cocktail-lounge panache. Parking is free and in-room massages can be arranged.
The rooms
The 44 rooms, including three suites, all overlook the courtyard. Inside, the rooms feature bright carpeting and bedspreads with local contemporary art. The overall look is kooky but comfortable.
