Detailed Review
In 1991, nine San Francisco artists put their heads and hearts together with a singleness of purpose. Their collaborative genius created the inspirational Hotel Triton, a 140-room wonderland like no other. Inspired by the original creators' imagination, our San Francisco boutique hotel continues to evolve, always staying at the forefront of all things visionary and distinct. Step inside our lobby and check out a fantastic mural that tells the story of San Francisco's growing and ever-changing art scene. Discover stunning photos in the hallways instead of uninspiring art you've learned to tune out. We've even designed a collection of celebrity hotel suites, joining forces with some of the most dynamic names in the entertainment industry.
The Hotel Triton, a Kimpton Hotel, is also an inspiration and pioneer in environmentally friendly: Our entire Union Square hotel is cleaned with "green" products, our eco-friendly rooms and eco-celebrity suites are hugely popular, and we've partnered up with The Trust for Public Land, donating a percentage of room revenue to this visionary organization.
Best of all, just two blocks from Union Square, Hotel Triton is right in the center of the scene that drives San Francisco. Across the street from the Chinatown gates, our boutique hotel is conveniently located five blocks from Moscone Center. Hotel Triton is just a short walk to Little Italy, a quick complimentary towncar ride Monday through Friday 7-9 a.m. to the Financial District, or a smooth stroll to historic Nob Hill.

"Themed, whimsical rooms and trendy guests on the edge of Chinatown"
Hotel Triton
By Gregory McNamee
You know youre in San Francisco - and certainly the ever-so-chic Hotel Triton - when the concierge takes time to explain, patiently, the workings of the hotels environmentally correct EcoRooms, all biodegradable skincare products and organically produced linens. You know youre somewhere out of the ordinary when, come the cocktail hour, a Tarot card reader has set up shop in the lobby - and theres a line waiting to consult her. (Lest there be any confusion, theres a handy reality check: the main gate into Chinatown is just a few steps outside the Tritons doors.) The clientele tends to the sunglasses-after-dark, just-out-of-college set - a woman in her mid-30s lamented, Im too old for this crowd - and the desk staff shares a touch of the too-cool-for-school attitude. But theres fun to be had here for persons of the right demographic.
The rooms
The Tritons rooms are on the small side, even for San Francisco, and frayed at the edges; one persons funky is anothers shabby, and the place makes a good test of the distinction. Even the least of the Tritons rooms are lavishly decorated in a kind of flea-market, hippie-meet-hobbit-meets-Home Depot way, full of touches that are mostly amusing (ask to see the Wyland ocean suite, just for grins). The EcoRooms work just as advertised, though, and are of tremendous appeal to those who believe the Kyoto Accords are a good thing.
