"Spanish-colonial style resort on the west coast riviera"
The Four Seasons Biltmore
By Hal Peat
Nestled on Butterfly Beach in exclusive Montecito, a scenic 15-minute drive from Santa Barbara airport, the Four Seasons Biltmore is a luminous adobe and terra-cotta hacienda surrounded by secluded guest cottages within 20 acres of tropical paradise. This is a property with all the illustrious history stretching back to the 1920s when stars like Greta Garbo, Erroll Flynn and Bing Crosby were discovering the new resort as a magical weekend hideaway. Today it retains all the architectural highlights and fine points of most of its original structure, skillfully updated with all the requisite contemporary requirements in services and comfort, along with full access to communication technologies expected by the high-end business or leisure traveler. The main lobby and public lounge areas, with their soaring archways and Spanish colonial detail, have been brightened and restored to the grandeur of their early years. With its expansive acres of lush grounds filled with tropical gardens which comfortably accommodate the resorts two swimming pools and clay tennis courts, the Biltmore (as it’s still referred to fondly by locals) remains noteworthy for the absolutely peaceful and luxurious feel of its guest suites and casitas which maintain their own beautiful Spanish architecture from the Twenties. Amenities and services in each casita or suite include such features as multilingual concierge staff, 24-hour in-room dining, twice-daily housekeeping service, terry cloth bathrobes, and high speed internet access. Public areas include four restaurants and two lounges for oceanside dining. Tthe Biltmores newest pride and joy, however, is probably the 10,000 "The Spa at the Four Seasons Biltmore", just completed last year. Several of the deluxe suites for treatments here come fully equipped with fireplace and ocean view terrace, while spa treatments incorporate aromatics and essential oils derived from botanicals indigenous to Santa Barbara County. The adjacent fitness center comes equipped with the latest cardio and circuit training equipment; prior to, or after your treatment, the staff pampers you with rejuvenating specialty beverages in the spa lounge as you relax in front of another Pacific vista.
